In San Diego recently there has been a trial of some brilliant new innovative surgery that helps with arthritis for dogs.
Keyway an 8 year old German Shepherd dog has just had elbow joint replacement surgery for joint arthritis and is now recovering well. His front elbow joints were replaced with special prosthetic joints to help him walk without pain.
It would be nice if we could avoid surgery for dog arthritis but it’s also good to know that we can help when supplements like glucosamine for dogs is not enough.
Here is a video of Keyways experience!

I have a dog that is suffering from Arthritis. He is taking Rimadyl for it. But the medicine is not helping him. What else can I do for him?
Glucosamine & Chondroitin has worked great for my dogs arthritis. We were told she needed to be on Rimadyl but it wasn’t doing anything. I give her 2 pills a day of Vitamin World Joint Soother and she has done a complete turn around after only a couple of weeks. It’s been a year that she’s been on these and I’m so glad that it’s helped as much as it has. I’ve heard that the liquids work very well since they get in the system much quicker.

I was wondering if anyone had heard of or if they have used a product called Dr. Franks pet pain spray. It sounds to good to be true and yes I do know what that usually means but I am hoping to find that out before I get my hopes up with a purchase.Thank you if you can give me some sort of fed back .
Our vet starts with glucosamine and baby aspirins. Next is Rimadyl. Then DMSO applied to the skin, then steroids, finally more powerful pain killers like Metacam.

My dog is quite old. (12y/o) She has arthritis in her back & back legs to the point that she is in so much pain she can’t move. The vet gave her a corto shot & chewible pills she seems to really like…but is she going to have to take those always and are there other things?
I’m not a kid, I have taken to the vet, if u actually read what I said it states that.
Yep. Sounds like your vet gave your dog Rimadyl. A very common arthritis pain med. If it’s Rimady you’ll be wanting the vet to keep an eye on your dog’s liver function.
Yes, there are other pain meds available if she can’t tolerate the Rimadyl.
Yes, she will probably be on the pain meds for the rest of her life. Enjoy your friend while you can.
Our departed mutt Shovelhead was on Rimady the last few of his 16 years.

My dog is a 12 ½ year old full size Blue Merle Collie. He more recently has been experiencing bad hip pain; it seems to have gotten worse as the weather has been getting colder. He has already done the 4 cortisone injections and seemed to be doing well until the weather got much colder. I had asked our vet if there is a mild pain reliever we can give him. She prescribed us Dameraxx. We have been doing some research on this drug and considering the side effects are not comfortable giving this to him. I tried speaking to the vet about alternatives, and she had not other real suggestions. I spoke with another vet who told me the first vet prescribed the drug for a reason so we should at least try it. They want us to give him this and then monitor his side effects, by then it will be too late. I would rather look for a more pro active approach. Ideally we were hoping for like a “Motrin or Tylenol Arthritis” but for dogs. Do you have any suggestion are can you offer us any alternatives?
I won’t actually give him motrin or tylenol. I was just looking for something compareable to this, but that is safe for dogs to take. Sorry for the confusion.
His health other than this problem is good. He recently had complete blood work and wellness testing, which all came back good.
I also have a 12 1/2 year old lab with arthritis - It always bothers him more when it’s cold out…
I give him 2 baby asprins in the morning and 2 at night (He’s 120lbs., so probably 1 morning and night would be right for your dog). It really seems to help him!
You can’t give him Motrin or Tylenol - They are both toxic to dogs and can kill him.

I just recently bought my dog Glucosamine, Chondroitin msm pills and i was wondering what the dosage would be? I have a 96 lb Lab. The pills say there is 1500 mg of Gluscosamine, 1200 mg of Chondroitin and 500 mg of msm with three pills. Any ideas on how many pills to give my dog a day?
So 3 pills a day gives the dosages you wrote? If so, that does will be fine for a dog of that size. 1500mg of Glucosamine is the dose that has been shown to have a therapeutic effect. (ie relieves pain) and is a nutritional supplement also.
EDIT: Make sure you give the pills with food, as studies have shown that glucosamine and chondroitin are absorbed better when they have a ‘vehicle’ (ie food) to get into the blood stream with.
